You are invited to join with others for a season of spiritual growth.
The purpose of the Progress Project course is to deepen our personal relationships with the Creator of all, share our inner lives with each other, and support each other in spiritual goals through intentional relationship. We take our name from an initiative that was developed as a network of small groups focused on personal spiritual growth.
The Progress Project is a deep-dive! You’re making a real commitment – to yourself, to your triad, and to our Creator. As a result, we don’t have auditors for this course. Before registering, we invite you to reflect on whether the time is right for you to make such a commitment. We hope you’ll say yes!
Your commitment not only supports you in your personal progress, but the whole group in theirs. We’re all in this together...in spiritual growth!
You are invited to partner with us to curate the Progress Project course for your community or organization. Graduates are then welcomed into the greater Progress Project community.
Our vision is to help the Progress Project pollinate across the spiritually-hungry world and even into the secular environment.
We are currently working on three different versions:
Join us!
Together in Spiritual Growth!
The Progress Project course material can be accessed online with a free account on our learning management system.
There will be supportive videos and resources to enhance the written content.
The monthly Zoom gatherings are the space for the Triads in the community to engage with others about how the elements of the course content is integrating into their lives.
There will be large group and breakout discussions.
We suggest that the Triad approach to spiritual growth is highly valuable.
Ask two people to join you in the course for a year deep diving into spiritual progress.
What began as a 12-week course is now being creatively designed to suit other individuals, small groups, larger communities, and organizations.
As an example, during a course, we meet for twelve sessions, generally 90 minutes a week in an online class, focusing on the arc of spiritual growth from inner connection to outer expression through integrity of higher values and service to humanity.
Each class period includes time for communion, instruction from the facilitators, breakout groups for study and personal reflection on the week’s theme, and wraps up in the large group discussion.
In addition, all students are expected to join a Triad: a group of three that meets outside of class to support and accompany each other in the desire for personal spiritual progress. These meetings are an additional 90 minutes a week and include communion, sharing of your inner life, and a time for study, reflection, and goal assessment and setting.
During the course, all students are asked to develop a personal, everyday practice of communion with the Creator of all. We invite you to journal about your experience as you go.
We hold an orientation session several weeks before the start date and will also make a recording available to all who register. If you are considering the Progress Project course, it is required to attend this session or watch the recording.
At the orientation, we provide key information that you will need as a participant in the Progress Project course and give you a chance to ask questions. This will help you decide if the course is right for you in this season of life.
If you decide to join the course, we ask you to complete a short online survey and make a commitment to undertake the entire twelve sessions and meet with your Triad in between them. Sometimes the courses run longer than twelve weeks/months, as we honor major holidays.

Alum from the courses step into greater roles of service, helping others on their journeys of spiritual progress.
After facilitating two Progress Project courses, we decided the structure that had been developed would greatly benefit by an additional course specifically for the Progress Project Service Corps (PPSC). The first offering was spring 2022 for the alum of the original courses.
As you invite us to collaborate with you to develop a curated Progress Project course for your community or organization, we will also work with you to onboard a Service Corps through an adaptable training.
The following is what we have identified as important elements for that training:
I'm Angie Thurston, and I'll be one of your faculty members for this course. I have always been compelled most by the idea of spiritual growth. I would learn about "spiritual goals" and "growing closer to God" and I wanted to know how to do it! I also knew that I couldn't -- and didn't want to -- do it alone. Luckily, I wasn't the only one. The Progress Project was born from a small group of spiritual enthusiasts who all wanted to support and accompany each other in our spiritual growth. It has been a Godsend for me and I'm excited to share it with you.
My work in the world is all about the future of spiritual community. I am a Ministry Innovation Fellow at Harvard Divinity School and the co-founder of Sacred Design Lab, a soul-centered research and development lab. With my mother, Claire Thurston, I lead a program called Inner Sourcing for young adults to connect with their souls.
I'll be joining you from Alexandria, VA, where I live with my husband Vipin and our cat Pepper.
Aloha! Aprilhelen here, facilitating this course from the Northwest Arkansas Ozarks, as we are all ’Together in Spiritual Growth!’ Being a lover of experiential wisdom, one of my passions has been the practice of integrating the techniques of the art of living prescribed by witnessing how many master teachers have lived.
Through the past twenty-five years of sharing, with all ages, the eight-fold path of the art of therapeutic yoga and personal transformation, catering and nutrition education, horticulture and animal husbandry, I have been able to effectively expose these tools for others, so we may all up-step our addition of value to the progress of the whole.
My spiritual sister, Angie, and I have worked together for over a decade. Our shared delight and curiosity has provided us many valuable leadership and service opportunities that laid the foundation from which the Progress Project and the Progress Project Service Corps have now emerged.
My journey has been one of music and spirituality. I also enjoy philosophy, gardening, and canoeing in the Boundary Waters.
I've personally progressed so much by taking the Progress Project course twice, as well as the Service Corps course. Taking the lead currently, our team is creating a new offering, the Unity Spiritual Progress Project. It is a combination of the Unity teachings partnered with the Progress Project originally created by Aprilhelen and Angie. I’m amazed how Unity Center's Twelve Powers fit perfectly with the twelve themes of the Progress Project! I hope the deepening awareness of our relationship with God, and God’s presence, is as powerful for you as it is for me through this course.
I live in Minnesota with my husband Rick, our dog, Gus, and our cat, Pumpkin. We have great gardens and orchards, because we have great soil!
